NOBBIs (5th Strike) Finest Selection Of Midtempo Funk & Soul »« DJ JFK – Brit Funk Special
What a great selection of Motown memories! The remixes just enhance the originals with a great accapella feel! The ‘Spinners’ It’s a shame was never off my turntable when I bought the original 7″ single! The Commodores never sound beter than on ‘Easy’ with Lionel Ritchie still sounding like a ‘black’ artist! Smokey & Stevie round off a top selection of Berry Gordy magic! The Temps remiind me of our ‘Funky foursome’ night in Stuttgart! Here my feelings are mixed by these ledgendary goups stil performing but with only one or two of the original members! On the one hand it keeps the music alive to a live audience many of whom are hearing these songs for the first time. On the other hand a lot of the original sound and magic is lost when the ‘stand in’ artists take over from the familiar voices of the originals! So I remain divided as to whether it’s a good or bad thing to continue these ‘live shows’ !
Sly Stone continues to mesmorize me with his 1968 ‘Dance To the Music’ This was the sound that kick started funk to a wider audience – A great talent!
Of course any Charlie Murphy show is not complete without at least one addition from Prince! This is no exeption with a great contribution of F.U.N.K. ! All in all a great Soul Show from a man who knows his music – Bring on Feed 34 Mr C.M. and look out for JFK’s Rare Groove show – coming soon! With tracks as rare as Rocking Horse DooDoo He he!
